REQUIREMENTS .......For the

COMPUTER SYSTEMS SECURITY PROFESSIONAL (CSSP) Certification

Associate and Senior Grades

This initiative was established in March of 1983, in order to provide appropriate professional recognition to qualified individuals responsible for the protection of information processing resources and assist management in identifying individuals qualified to protect those key resources.

The Senior grade CSSP must meet four distinct requirements to receive and retain Certification:

EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE CRITERIA

WRITTEN EXAMINATION PROFICIENCY

PROFESSIONAL ETHICS COMPLIANCE

ACCUMULATE RE-CERTIFICATION CREDITS

The two-part, seven hour written examination is conducted several times a year, in various parts of the world.

The three-hour, Part 1 written examination is required for candidates seeking qualification as Computer Systems Security Professional (CSSP), Associate grade. This examination has two parts which together, test the candidates fundamental knowledge of computer systems security issues. Part 1a. consists of a number of multiple-choice answers to various questions, and Part 1b. requires written, detailed answers to a variety of questions.

The four-hour, Part 2 written examination is required for candidates seeking qualification as Computer Systems Security Professional (CSSP), Senior grade. This written examination consists solely of multiple-part questions requiring detailed answers. No one can sit for the Senior grade examination unless they have met the prerequisite combination of formal education and work experience specified in our Certification brochure and has passed the Associate grade examination.

The passing grade for both examinations is 65. Anyone that fails the examination cannot re-apply for at least one (1) year. Both of these written examinations are normally held in conjunction with our four-day Information Systems Security Workshop, which provides significant help in passing both examinations.
